Ways to Design Your Dream Home on a Budget
Everyone has had a dream home in mind at least once in his or her lifetime, whether it was in a small home, an apartment, or a mansion. However, finances can be a really big problem when it actually comes time to design your dream home. If you want to design your dream home but you are financially strapped for cash, then follow these tips on how you can design your dream home on a strict budget.
Visit a Secondhand Store
If you listen to the radio, then you’ve probably heard the Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Song, “Thrift Shop.” This song glorifies thrift shops and the bargains they give to customers. They definitely should be glorified because they’re a great way to get designer clothes and other products for dirt cheap. Visiting a secondhand store of some sort for furniture and décor is a great way to gather up items for your dream home. Don’t spend thousands of dollars at IKEA when you could be spending just hundreds of dollars at a bargain store.
Talk to Friends Who Know a Thing or Two about Interior Design
If you have any friends who are into interior design or floor planning, then ask them if they could help you with your dream home design. They will probably help you free of charge, but if not, they won’t charge as much as independent contractors would. Utilize your networks and close friends and you’ll have the floor plan for your dream home designed and ready in no time. Carpenters are also good to talk to, so talk to your carpentry friends, too.
If You Have Not Bought a Home Yet
If you are still on the market for your home, then talk to a real estate agent about your plans. They will be able to set you up with some sellers who have the home and price range that you are looking for. You might have to start with a smaller home, but as the income starts to flow, you can add on room extensions, decks and other little renovations that will complete your dream home.
Have Some Patience
A dream home doesn’t just happen overnight, so be patient. Some people don’t ever get to have their dream home, so be happy that you’re even getting to start making yours. You don’t want your design to sit forever, but don’t buy everything at once. Buy a piece of furniture here and there and slowly build up your house. It will give you something to do over time and you’ll be much more satisfied when the work is finally done.
It isn’t too difficult to design a dream home, but actually executing the process is the hardest part. Visit bargain stores, talk to friends and discuss your options with real estate agents. Most people will only want to see you succeed, so take all of their opinions and suggestions into consideration. Do the best that you can with what you have and you’ll soon have the abode of your dreams.
